cc99 - business for business
It has always been the paradox of cc development that business needs to be encouraged, educated and even persuaded to take up a practice that is so simple and positive.
We will be testing different approaches to this task in the Comox Valley and Vancouver and reporting on the results as they emerge. We will be using the following basic benefits.
new money
new money is money that comes back
multiple currencies come in many varieties
they generally carries zero interest
they can operate either on-line or off-line
loyalty systems
any business can have their own system
note - individual issue has risks that community issue does not. A business running its own loyalty system is the sole issuer of that currency, and thus will bear all the risks of counterfeit. Such issuers have to take care that the terms of redemption do not expose their business to excessive demands, as might happen if they issue too much and it all comes back at once, particularly if the customers are entitled to use the loyalty money for 100% of a purchase rather than just some part of the gross margin.
check
GPT / BOOTS for a recent success story that indicates the potential.
cc cards will also (soon) be capable of running monthly charge accounts for selected customers.
business net
There are reported to be something like 500,000 businesses in the world, mainly in the USA, trading perhaps $20 billion per annum through networks generally misnamed "commercial barter networks" (while they are definitely commercial, they are specifically NOT barter, and can't properly be described as networks). For example, check
Mutual Exchange Canada or Roy Davies' page on Barter.cc systems provide virtually all the bells and whistles in the "commercial barter" package, but without the extraordinary costs - generally entry fees of $500+, annual charges of $100 minimum, and cash fees of 5-10% of every trade.
$300 per business
at this cost, how can they lose? One now and one later.
community way
If business contributes, customers will come.
Basic cc equipment can be provided without charge to businesses that make cw$ contributions.
