cc in '99 - meme: (pron. 'meem') :

A contagious idea that replicates like a virus, passed on from mind to mind.

Memes function the same way genes and viruses do, propagating through communication networks and face-to-face contact between people.

Root of the word "memetics," a field of study which postulates that the meme is the basic unit of cultural evolution. Examples of memes include melodies, icons, fashion statements and phrases.

Michael Linton is the designer of LETSystems and has been propagating that meme since 1982. The idea that anyone and any community can have its own money has made its way around the world in over 2000 applications, mostly in Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Europe. The word LETS, meaning invitation and consent, is now used generically to identify those community currency systems that are based on mutual credit accounting processes.

Ernie Yacub, a community organizer and environmental activist, began working with Michael in 1996 while looking for a new way to finance a watershed restoration project in Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. From this collaboration, which included many days of grunt labour hauling dirt, logs and rocks deconstructing a logging road bridge, the community way program was developed.

Michael and Ernie (me & me) live in the Comox Valley, BC, mid way up the east coast of Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast. They are available (have cards will travel) for consultation and cc development.

In the recent history of community currency development, there have been few opportunities offering investors any substantial security , or expectation of rapid recovery. All investment so far has been essentially unsecured, long term and often predominantly social.

The development program for cc systems, and the establishment of the supply chain, are structured as new self-standing initiatives, with their own independent revenues. Inquiries regarding investment and/or purchasing are very welcome, if serious.
