NO Volunteers!
I have noticed that several people have mentioned people "working for free" or "Voluntary" on LETS administration. Why have anyone work for free when you have local currency to pay with? Here in the Blue Mountains, we operate two offices which are staffed part-time. They are paid in local (ecos) at E15 per hour. Members are levied $20 + E20 per annum, the $ being required for rent, postage, phone etc.
Trading is about E30,000 per month and I think there are usually 3 people in the office 10am-2pm 5 days a week, and they are kept fairly busy answering the phone, handling desk enquiries, entering transactions into the computer etc.
Incidentally, we simplified out accounting a bit by dropping the per-ad charges in our newsletters. All members pay a flat fee per year (a few ecos) to cover advertising costs. When we changed from fee-for-use to flat fee, there was fear that the number of ads would increase dramatically. In practice, there was no change at all.
