Helen from Frome LETS has recently applied for Family Credit on the basis of LETS earnings.
Here is what happened......................
The result of my claim, based on 16 hours work per week paid wholly in local currency, was that I have had my claim for family credit upheld. It wasn't entirely straightforward, and one benighted official sent me back my form, which I had neatly filled in with my earnings recorded in "Fromes", with "please complete in pounds STERLING" scrawled across the front!
The translation from local to sterling was made at an arbitrary 1:1 ratio, with which I was in agreement, as all businesses who trade goods in From LETS do so on a 1:1 Fromes:Pounds Sterling basis.
Incidentally, a proportion of my childcare charges are paid in Fromes, and these too have been considered under the UKP40 per week child care allowance. I'm happy to provide further information to anyone else who is in a position of making, or supporting someone who is making a similar claim.
